Italy expresses support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship and President of the European Council Charles Michel, aimed at the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the establishment of stability and peace in the South Caucasus region, as well as the dialogue for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey. This was stated by Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio, who is in Armenia on a working visit, during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia.
Discussing issues related to the situation created in the South Caucasus, Nikol Pashinyan presented his observations regarding the processes taking place around Nagorno-Karabakh and emphasized the importance of an adequate response from the international community to the provocative actions carried out by Azerbaijan.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, stressing the importance of clarifying the status of Artsakh, ensuring security, and protecting the fundamental rights of the Armenians of Artsakh.
Nikol Pashinyan and Luigi Di Maio also spoke about bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the implementation of consistent steps towards increasing the volume of trade and the realization of joint investment programs.
The foreign ministers of Italy and Armenia issued a joint statement.
Subsequently, the President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Italian official. The President emphasized that the path leading to lasting and stable peace in this region is dialogue and the formation of an atmosphere of trust. Khachaturyan stressed the importance of clarifying the status of Artsakh, ensuring the security of the people living there, and protecting fundamental rights.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy also emphasized the establishment of constructive dialogue between the parties and the formation of mutual trust. Luigi Di Maio welcomed the fact that Armenia strives to move forward on the path of establishing peace.
