Meeting of Representatives of Armenian Political Parties in Lebanon

The Meeting of Representatives of Armenian Political Parties Discussed Regional, Lebanese and Community Issues Representatives of the three Armenian political parties held their periodic session on Monday, 26 February 2024, at the Tekeyan Center.
The agenda included regional military-political developments, the ongoing war in southern Lebanon, and issues concerning the Lebanese-Armenian community.
The party representatives addressed the mass massacres taking place in Gaza, which are being carried out before the silent witnessing and complicity of the international community. The comparison with Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy against the people of Artsakh was underscored, and in that regard, Azerbaijan’s impunity was affirmed.
The attendees then examined the situation prevailing in Lebanon, the deeply concerning escalation of military attacks shifting from southern Lebanon to other cities and regions. Amid these crisis conditions, they stressed the importance of electing the republic’s president, while deeming it strictly necessary to settle on a candidate on the basis of all-Lebanese consensus.
The attendees focused on the present-day problems of the Lebanese-Armenian community, the glaring phenomena of departure from the educational sphere, from organized life and its corresponding structures, alienation, and the decline in quality in spiritual and cultural terms. Alongside all this, the subjects of examination were the migratory flow from heavily Armenian-populated neighbourhoods, the change in the demographic picture, and the social problems connected with them.
Overcoming the acute problems confronting the community as a result of Lebanon’s accumulating crises was deemed the overarching task of all Armenian circles; consequently, the possibilities of planning coordinated efforts were brought under the spotlight.
The meeting decided to organize the central events of the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide through a joint body, and to continue meetings with periodic frequency, with agendas devoted to the aforementioned issues and to the planning and implementation of the events.
