On Monday, 8 November 2021, a memorial service was held at Yerablur, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the martyrdom of Artak Avagimyan, a member of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party of Artsakh, who fell exactly one year ago during the defensive battles of Shushi in the 44-day Artsakh war.

Present at the memorial service were Artak Avagimyan’s relatives, his comrades-in-arms and party comrades, as well as members of the ADL Central Board, Aleksan Garatanayan and Bardugh Galstyan (also Chairman of the Artsakh ADL), who laid a wreath on behalf of the ADL at the grave of their martyred comrade.

Many of those present spoke from the heart on this occasion, emphasising in their words Artak’s courageous, patriotic character and his bold spirit, ready for sacrifice in the name of the homeland, which drove him to volunteer for the defence of the fatherland.

Bardugh Galstyan also spoke on behalf of the ADL Central Board, saying in particular: “Just as Artak was a good friend, a good person for society and those around him, so too was he a good party comrade, devoted, with whom there were many plans for the future, which, alas, he left unfinished.” Galstyan also conveyed the deep condolences of party comrades to the family members of the martyred comrade, sent from the United States, Canada, France, Jerusalem, Jordan, Lebanon and all communities, promising that they would always stand by the family of their immortalised comrade.

May the prayers raised to God for the souls of Artak and the thousands of martyrs like him become comfort and balm for our wounded people.

Let us recall that Artak Vladimir’s Avagimyan (born 1980) was martyred exactly one year ago, during the defensive battles of Shushi, where he had been transferred in the last 3 days of the war, having previously fought in Martakert, as part of a volunteer detachment.

Born in the village of Ghazanci in the Martakert region, he had settled in Shushi before the war, was married, and had two daughters. He was also a participant in the April war.

Deep respect to all the devoted ones of the Artsakh liberation struggle who traversed a glorious military path, and to our heroes martyred for the freedom of the homeland.

Their memory will always remain bright in the minds and souls of the Armenian people.
