“Tert.am”, “For a small country like Armenia, mining is an evil,” commenting on the issue of the operation of the Amulsar gold mine, renowned homeland environmentalist Karine Danielyan said this:
The expert emphasized that the examination presented as “proof” is not complete and unambiguous. She noted that in fact no examination was conducted, but rather previous studies carried out by “Lydian” and the Ministry of Environment were reviewed. However, that examination does not even speak of the absence of risks.
“Indeed, the examination has been presented in such a way that everything depends on how one perceives it. However, it is known that the operation of the mine with existing deficiencies is unacceptable,” Danielyan noted.
According to her, under the proposed conditions, the development of the mine is fraught with a disaster of even regional scale. “For a small country like Armenia, mining is an evil. Look at the results of such activity in Kapan, Alaverdi, Sotk, the large amount of heavy metals in the Masrik River,” she insisted.
