It is moving to see how decades of hostility have been set aside to help desperate people in need, wrote the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, on her Twitter page, referring to Armenia’s step of sending humanitarian aid to Turkey.
Power noted that for the first time in 35 years, the Armenia-Turkey border crossing was opened so that aid could reach those affected by the earthquake. “Armenia is sending 100 tons of cargo and a search-and-rescue team,” wrote the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development.
Armenia sent 100 tons of humanitarian cargo to the disaster zone on 11 February via the shortest route connecting Armenia to Turkey — the Margara bridge, closed since 1993 — to Adiyaman, some 600 kilometres away. A 27-member team of Armenian rescuers is working in that city.
