At the extraordinary session of the National Assembly on 29 December, the ruling “My Step” alliance voted unanimously in favour of the question of terminating the mandate of Naira Zohrabyan, deputy of the “Prosperous Armenia” party, as chair of the standing parliamentary committee on the protection of human rights and public affairs.
78 parliamentarians voted in favour of this initiative, 4 against.
It should be noted that the “Bright Armenia” and “Prosperous Armenia” parties, as well as Naira Zohrabyan herself, boycotted the extraordinary session of parliament.
In the National Assembly, in particular, quotations were cited from certain posts on Zohrabyan’s Facebook page, which, in the opinion of the ruling majority, contain statements that demean and insult human dignity, which is enshrined in the Constitution as a supreme value. Therefore, in the view of the ruling “My Step” alliance, Naira Zohrabyan cannot be chair of a standing parliamentary committee whose key function is the protection of human rights.
