The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, attended the 5th international conference dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust in Jerusalem. This was reported by the Department of Public Relations of the Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia.
The conference, titled “Remembering the Holocaust, Fighting Antisemitism,” brought together leaders and other high-ranking officials from more than 40 countries around the world at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial complex. The conference was opened by the President of the State of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, under whose auspices, in cooperation with the “World Holocaust Forum” foundation and Yad Vashem, the conference is taking place. Expressing gratitude to the participating countries for their solidarity, he delivered a message to remember and never forget.
Speeches were delivered by the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu; the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin; the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron; the Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence; Prince Charles of the United Kingdom; the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier; as well as the Chairman of the Yad Vashem Council, Holocaust survivor Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau.
The speakers noted that it was no coincidence that the conference took place at Yad Vashem, the memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust. Marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the conference once again conveyed the message that antisemitism, xenophobia, racism and intolerance cannot have a place in the modern world. Their remembrance, recognition and unequivocal condemnation are the moral duty and primary obligation of all, in the name of the past and the future of humanity.
The multinational orchestra and choir, under the direction of Maestro Vladimir Spivakov, conveyed a message in the universal language of music in the name of peace and harmony.
Within the framework of the conference, President Sarkissian held conversations with the Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence; Prince Charles of the United Kingdom; the President of France, Emmanuel Macron; the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier; the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella; the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa; the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi; and the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli.
