The Parliament is to discuss the question of the election of the Republic’s President on March 2. The decision of the National Assembly’s Council has been published.
Armen Sargsyan resigned from the office of President of Armenia. The ruling “Civil Contract” faction nominated the Minister of High-Tech Industry, Vahagn Khachatryan, for the office of President. The opposition “Armenia” and “I Have Honor” factions of the National Assembly did not nominate a candidate, declaring that they “will not participate in any way” in the election of the Republic’s President.
To be elected in the first round, a candidate needs at least 81 deputies’ votes. In the first round, the ruling faction needs the opposition, but there are second and third rounds of the presidential election, where the ruling faction can secure the necessary votes alone.
