Our clergy continue their spiritual service at Dadivank thanks to the commendable mission of the Russian peacekeepers, which ensures the security of the monastery. This was stated in response to a query from NEWS.am by the information system of the Mother See.
“As for the false claims that Dadivank is Albanian, it is an undeniable historical fact that the monastery was Armenian from the outset and had no connection whatsoever with the Church of Caucasian Albania, let alone with today’s newly emerged Albanian-Udi religious community,” the statement said.
It should be recalled that Azerbaijan has demanded that Armenian clergy be expelled from Dadivank.
The chairman of the State Committee for Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan, Mubariz Gurbanli, had stated that “Armenian clergy must leave” Dadivank.
According to him, “Armenians have no connection whatsoever with that monastic complex.”
“It belongs to the Caucasian Albanians, and sooner or later its administration will be carried out by the Albanian-Udi religious community,” Gurbanli stated.
Azerbaijanis call the ancient Armenian Dadivank Monastery, located in the Kelbajar district, “Khudaveng.” After the 44-day war, it remains under the control of Russian peacekeepers.
