The Armenian side remains committed to the principle of peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and is ready to resume the peace process in accordance with the statements of the presidents and foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries over the past few days. This was stated by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in an expanded format.
Pashinyan first recalled that two weeks ago Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack against Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijani forces, supported by Turkey, are carrying out military operations using all types of modern technology. They are directed not only against Nagorno-Karabakh, but also against the territory of the Republic of Armenia. “We assess these actions as an Azerbaijani-Turkish attack against the Armenian people. Our people are facing a very serious challenge. Our security, freedom and independence are endangered. Our cities and villages are under constant missile and artillery fire. The civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh is being targeted. There are many dead and wounded. Serious damage has been inflicted on infrastructure, residential buildings have been destroyed. Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, has suffered the most. The people of Nagorno-Karabakh are on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. It is not only the Azerbaijani army, guided by Turkish military experts, that is participating in military operations against our people. Mercenaries and militants recruited by Turkey from Syria are also involved,” said Pashinyan.
He recalled that this fact has been confirmed by the official statements of the leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, as well as by numerous publications in reputable international media. Turkey’s active actions, which threaten to completely destabilise the situation in the region, are of particular concern. Pashinyan stressed that despite all efforts, the adversary has not been able to achieve significant success.
“Our people are more united than ever and determined to defend their freedom and independence. We remain committed to the principle of peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and are ready to resume the peace process in accordance with the statements of the presidents and foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries over the past few days,” said the Prime Minister, adding that this is a fateful issue for Armenia, and he undoubtedly wanted to share with his partners in the EAEU countries information about the tragic events now taking place in the troubled region.
He expressed special gratitude to all members of the delegations for arriving in Armenia at this difficult time. “This is especially valuable for us,” said the Prime Minister.
The meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will take place in Yerevan on 9 October. The meeting in a narrow format has already taken place. It was attended by the heads of government of Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Chairman of the EEC Board Mikhail Myasnikovich.
