Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, during a meeting with his supporters in the community of Mets Mantash in Shirak Province on 9 June, stated that he has instructed the relevant bodies to officially convey to Azerbaijan his proposal to exchange his son, Ashot Pashinyan, for all prisoners.
“My son is ready to go to Baku in the status of a hostage, on the condition of the return of all our prisoners. But I do not want you to suddenly think that this is the only tool or a desperate step to solve the problem of our prisoners; very intensive work is being carried out during this period,” he said.
According to Pashinyan, however, that work should not be spoken about aloud, so as not to hinder the process of the prisoners’ return.
It should be noted that on 8 May, during a campaign rally in Aparan, Nikol Pashinyan, responding to the statement of the third President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan that Pashinyan should give his son to secure the return of 20-25 prisoners of war, said that he agrees and has authorized official negotiations on the matter.
“Do not suddenly think that I am saying something emotional; I am saying it officially — go and negotiate,” Pashinyan said.
