Today marks the 14th anniversary of the bloody events of March 1.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Alen Simonyan, who is performing the duties of the President of Armenia, and other high-ranking officials paid tribute early this morning at the statue of Alexander Myasnikyan in memory of the victims.
In the early morning of March 1, 2008, police attacked opposition protesters who had spent the night in Yerevan’s Freedom Square, expressing their protest against the official results of the presidential election.
Later that same day, as a result of clashes that broke out between protesters and security forces in and around the square adjacent to the statue of Alexander Myasnikyan, ten people were killed and hundreds were wounded.
Fourteen years have passed since the bloody post-election events of 2008, but the circumstances of the deaths of the 10 victims have not been clarified to this day.
