Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has signed a decision regarding the creation of a professional commission for constitutional reforms and the confirmation of the commission’s composition.
As reported by the government’s website, the professional commission includes the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Rustam Badasyan; the representative of the Republic of Armenia to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Yeghishe Kirakosyan; the Human Rights Defender, Arman Tatoyan; the Chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly, Vladimir Vardanyan; the deputy of the “My Step” faction, Vahagn Hovakimyan; the deputy of the “Prosperous Armenia” faction, Gevorg Petrosyan; the deputy of the “Bright Armenia” faction, Taron Simonyan; the member of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), Vigen Kocharyan; legal scholars Anahit Manasyan, Artur Ghambaryan, Armen Mazmanyan, Arsen Tavadyan, Levon Gevorgyan, Tigran Markosyan; the representative of the “Union of Informed Citizens” non-governmental organisation, Daniel Ioannisyan; and the representative of the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” non-governmental organisation, Karen Zadoyan.
By the Prime Minister’s decision, the working procedure of the professional commission for constitutional reforms has also been confirmed.
“Within three months after the commission begins its activities, develop the concept of constitutional reforms, ensure its public discussion and present it to the staff of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia; by 1 September 2020, develop and present to the staff of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia the draft of amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia,” the decision states.
