Of the 4,046 tests conducted on 8 July, we had 148 cases of infection with the “Corona” virus; at this moment we maintain a rate of up to 4%, although we note an increase in the reproduction rate. Acting Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said this during a press conference.
“We are concerned that the virus, being in constant circulation, is mutating (changing), acquiring new characteristics, and this was noticeable in the case of the English strain circulating in winter; subsequently, in the context of the widespread spread of COVID in India, the Indian strain also emerged, which is one of the main circulating strains, and cases of that strain have been recorded in Georgia and Russia,” said Anahit Avanesyan.
She also noted that the vaccination process throughout the world is not proceeding at such a speed that it would be possible to create a threshold of public resistance and not give the virus the opportunity to constantly transform.
“We have repeatedly stated that vaccinating many citizens in a short period of time creates a certain barrier so that we do not have constantly mutating strains,” she noted.
Anahit Avanesyan also emphasized that the draft decision on quarantine was also circulated at the Government session.
“I think that today a decision will be made to extend it, and it must definitely be extended, because the decision on quarantine creates a toolkit that allows applying a strict scope of restrictions, and the quarantine will be extended by 6 months; until September, a new package of restrictions will also be presented,” the minister noted.
During the press conference it was also noted that as of 7 July, 97,711 vaccinations had been administered.
