Anna Ohanyan, press secretary of the RA Minister of Economy, told Azatutyun that the Armenian government is conducting a comprehensive analysis of the situation caused by the sharp drop in oil prices and the depreciation of the Russian ruble, in order to convey the right signals to Armenian producers and exporters.
“The Russian Federation is one of our main trading partners, and the export market for a significant portion of our finished products is the Eurasian Economic Union, particularly Russia. Naturally, the changes taking place there cannot bypass our economy. All else being equal, the depreciation of the ruble against other major foreign currencies could affect the competitiveness of Armenian producers,” Ohanyan noted.
The Central Bank of Armenia also issued a statement, telling Azatutyun that it is “closely following the global economic developments caused by the Corona virus, and according to current assessments, it is expected that these effects, both on the global economy and on the Armenian economy, will be short-term.”
