The biggest problem in relations with the Diaspora is the following: which body has the authority to represent the Diaspora and speak in its name. This was stated by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on November 20 during a meeting with the abbots of the Mekhitarist Congregation on the island of San Lazzaro in Venice and representatives of the Venetian Armenian community.
According to him, the RA government very much wants to consult the Diaspora on many issues. “We have made attempts, but we have encountered a practical problem: there are so many structures in the Diaspora that it is impossible for any government to consult with all of them. Therefore, our task is to have a structure that has legitimacy, and by speaking with it we can say that we consulted with the Diaspora.
One of the most important tasks set before Diaspora Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan is precisely that: to consult with as wide a circle as possible, to form such a structure that will place Armenia-Diaspora relations on a new systemic level,” he said.
