Turkey’s parliamentary planning and budget committee has approved the budget to be allocated for 2020 to the “General Directorate for Research and Security Affairs” attached to Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 2020 it will amount to 5.9 million Turkish lira (approximately 1 million 30 thousand US dollars). In 2019, 11.2 million Turkish lira (approximately 2 million US dollars) had been allocated to the body.
According to the assessment of the Turkish opposition daily “Cumhuriyet,” this decision “reduces the budget allocated for the fight against the genocide theses” (meaning that the aforementioned directorate fights against the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the international arena — ed.), at a time when various parliaments continue to adopt decisions and resolutions recognising the Armenian Genocide.
It was noted that the Foreign Ministry’s General Directorate for Research and Security Affairs also carries out work to inform the international community about FETÖ (the Gülenist community).
