Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has stated why Turkey closed its airspace for flights from Armenia.
As reported by Armenpress, Cavusoglu explained Turkey’s move by the opening of the “Nemesis” fountain-monument in Yerevan.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister described the move as a provocation and noted that in response, they closed the airspace for flights from Armenia.
There is no ban on direct flights between Armenia and Turkey. Nevertheless, Cavusoglu said that VIP flights will also not be permitted, and added that they made an exception for the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, whose delegation visited Turkey to participate in the summit of speakers of parliaments of member states dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and the work of the plenary session of the General Assembly.
Cavusoglu threatened that “in the event of the continuation of such actions, new steps will be taken.”
