Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Syria this morning on an official visit — the first visit by an Iranian president since the conflict in Syria began in 2011. Armenpress reported this, citing the IRNA agency.
Raisi travelled to Syria at the official invitation of President Bashar al-Assad. The two leaders are to meet at the presidential palace in Damascus. Raisi is accompanied on the visit by four ministers, the governor of Iran’s Central Bank, the head of the Iranian president’s staff, and Raisi’s chief political adviser.
At Damascus International Airport, Raisi was welcomed by Syria’s Minister of Economy, Muhamet Samer al-Khalil.

The Syrian newspaper Al-Watan had earlier written that Raisi’s visit would last two days. Official negotiations between the presidents of Iran and Syria are to take place on strengthening the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
According to the newspaper’s information, during Raisi’s visit a large number of agreements and memoranda of understanding are to be signed between Iran and Syria in the economic sphere.
