US Congressman Adam Schiff has published an open letter addressed to President Joe Biden on his official page. Schiff noted that in just a few days, the 106th anniversary of the systematic killing and deportation of 1.5 million Armenian women, men and children by the Ottoman Empire will be marked.
“It will be the first April 24 of your presidency, and your first opportunity to follow through on your promise to recognize the genocide,” wrote Adam Schiff.
The Congressman also asked, in the name of hundreds of thousands of Armenian Americans, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of genocide survivors, to “keep the promise and recognize the Armenian Genocide.”
The facts of the genocide were recorded in real time by American diplomats, who noted that it was unprecedented in the history of humanity.
Schiff noted that Biden knows these facts very well and also spoke about them as a presidential candidate.
“As President, you now have the power to correct the mistakes of decades and thereby give meaning to your previous statement, when you acknowledged the genocide and said that ‘silence is complicity,'” wrote Schiff.
