Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross office have again visited Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan. The information was reported in an interview with Sputnik Armenia by Zara Amatuni, head of the communication and prevention programmes of the Armenian office of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“The latest visit took place at the beginning of March,” she said.
The delegates of the International Committee of the Red Cross visited the prisoners whose presence has been officially recognised by the Azerbaijani authorities. This time as well, the prisoners were given the opportunity to contact their relatives, exchange letters, and speak by phone and video link.
The representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross also assessed the prisoners’ health condition and detention conditions.
It should be noted that the previous visit took place in January.
Let us recall that Baku currently confirms the fact that 33 people have been held captive since the 44-day war of 2020. Official Yerevan, however, maintains that their number is higher. According to human rights defenders’ data, 80 people are being held in Azerbaijani captivity.
