Russian servicemen of the peacekeeping contingent have ensured the safety of residents of the Askeran district of Nagorno-Karabakh during the harvesting of grain crops near the demarcation line of the sides. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“Today’s goal is to ensure the safety of the harvest. Clearing operations are being carried out in the Askeran district and will be carried out over the course of one week. These operations are being carried out near the line of contact, so our presence is necessary,” said Igor Sergeyev, a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

The wheat harvest in the remote districts of Nagorno-Karabakh began with a delay, after agricultural lands were cleared of explosives and unexploded ordnance was demined by Russian sappers.

“We are harvesting wheat; the areas are not very large, but whatever there is, we cultivate it. Thanks to the Russian peacekeepers for ensuring our safety. Autumn work will soon begin; we again rely on the help of the peacekeepers,” said Suren Babayan, a resident of the Askeran district.

With the harvesting of the fields of the Askeran district, the wheat harvest in Nagorno-Karabakh is nearly coming to an end, but local residents are already turning to the Humanitarian Response Center to ensure that sowing work is not interrupted.

In accordance with the agreements stipulated in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, a complete ceasefire of all military operations was declared in Nagorno-Karabakh starting from 00:00 Moscow time on 10 November 2020. A peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation has been deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh to monitor the ceasefire regime.
