Samuel Babayan, Secretary of the Artsakh Security Council, has issued a statement on his Facebook page:
“Dear compatriots,
Artsakh is the center of Armenian statehood, the symbol of Armenian identity, and we were obliged to uphold the dignity of the Armenian. With this awareness, we have lived through all the phases of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict, the thousands of lives sacrificed for the land and for the right to live with dignity on that land, and the hardships endured.
Today, when the leaders of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh, by a conspiratorial unanimous decision and with a single stroke of the pen, have called into question the very existence of Armenian identity, deciding our being or not-being on our behalf, and then shamelessly utter lies about recorded realities, the question arises: who authorized you, in a democratic country, to surrender us without the consent of the people and without consulting the bodies elected by them?
In response and in protest to these criminal actions, I declare:
I resign from the highest title of ‘Hero of Artsakh’ and I terminate my powers as Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Artsakh.”
