Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Armenia on 5 May, and the following day will have meetings with Armenia’s leadership, and on 10-11 May will also visit Baku. This is reported by TASS, citing Russian Foreign Ministry official representative Maria Zakharova.
It is noted that on 6 May meetings are planned with Armenia’s political leadership, including acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry official representative Maria Zakharova, during the contacts it is planned to “thoroughly discuss a wide range of issues of bilateral and regional cooperation, as well as interaction in the international arena.” But the priority topic of the negotiations will be the implementation of existing agreements regarding Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Priority attention will be paid to practical steps in implementing the statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of 9 November 2020 and 11 January 2021 regarding Nagorno-Karabakh,” Zakharova said.
Reminding about the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Armenia, the media outlet wrote that “Lavrov’s visit will take place between two extraordinary sessions of Armenia’s parliament, during which the issue of electing a new prime minister will be discussed, after which the dissolution of the legislative body is expected. It can be expected that during the visit Russia’s minister will be briefed on the political situation in the republic.”
