The situation regarding the spread of the coronavirus continues to worsen in Armenia, unfortunately. This was stated today, 2 June, by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a press briefing held after the Cabinet meeting.
According to him, the main question that arises is the following: why is all this happening to us. “I want to repeat once again that the biggest issue is the observance of anti-epidemic rules. We are convinced that the observance of these rules leads to a decrease in the number of infections, even to zero.
The genealogy of our government, in essence, works against us in this situation. Because after 2018, the atmosphere of fear in the Republic of Armenia has been zeroed out, but in its place, the atmosphere of law-abidance has not yet reached an appropriate level. In essence, we are dealing with a situation where we also have a problem with the quality and strictness of recording violations.
Let me give one example: when a violation of the rules is recorded at a place of commerce, and a decision is made to close that place, and it is presumably a very serious source of the spread of infection, the next moment arguments come that the goods of the merchants will spoil, and they will suffer losses. Here we are dealing with a lack of strictness in administration.
All this is exacerbated by the atmosphere established in the country that if, let us suppose, any point selling cucumbers or tomatoes is closed very dryly, comments emerge that the country’s prime minister has decided to establish a monopoly on the trade of cucumbers, tomatoes, or greens,” said Pashinyan.
