The delegation headed by Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is in Kazan to participate in the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

Nikol Pashinyan’s first meeting was with the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, Armenia’s strategic ally.

“Armenia and Russia have long-standing strategic and allied relations,” said the head of the Russian government, noting that next year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He noted that the statements of 9 November 2020 and 11 January 2021 have created new opportunities for working together.

This means, first and foremost, the unblocking of economic and transport links, and it is also stability for the South Caucasus region.

Armenia’s acting Prime Minister highly assessed the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the cessation of military operations of the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan in September 2020.

Nikol Pashinyan recalled that a working group had been established under the leadership of the deputy prime ministers of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan, but that Azerbaijan has still not fulfilled an important point of the 9 November statement — it has not returned the prisoners of war and civilians.

“And I want to express gratitude to the Russian Federation for the efforts being invested in resolving this issue.”

Pashinyan also emphasised the unblocking of roads and the creation of new infrastructure. He noted that it is possible to change the economic situation in the region.

“We very highly assess the work of the trilateral commission, because the opening of regional communications can change the entire economic situation in our region and strengthen economic ties, economic cooperation between Russia and Armenia,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
