The formation of an alliance with Armenia’s second and third presidents, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan, after the elections is not ruled out. Armenia’s first president and prime ministerial candidate from the Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, said this at a press conference on 10 June.
He recalled that a similar proposal had been made earlier and was rejected. In his words, returning to it is now impossible. “It is another matter that if we pass, Kocharyan passes, Pashinyan passes, others pass, and no one has a majority, then we will be forced to form an alliance. I have always been in favour of solidarity and alliances. That phenomenon, however, can create new problems, since alliances can change every six months. As a result, we may find ourselves among the countries where several governments change in a year. That is a bad option, but of course we must try,” the first president noted.
He clarified that if a situation arises in which they are forced to choose between prime ministerial candidates Kocharyan and Pashinyan, the ANC will try not to make a wrong decision.
