On 23 October, the RA Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who was in the United States on a working visit, met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
This was reported by the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The focus of the discussion was the situation created as a result of the large-scale Azerbaijani attacks in Artsakh. Minister Mnatsakanyan informed the US Secretary of State about the war crimes being committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the hostilities, which are manifested in the deliberate targeting of Artsakh’s civilian population and infrastructure, degrading treatment of civilians and prisoners of war, beheadings and killings.
Secretary Pompeo expressed the American side’s condolences for the victims.
The Armenian Foreign Minister also stressed that this attack by the Azerbaijani side is taking place with Turkey’s direct involvement, which is expressed in direct military-technical support, including the introduction of armed terrorists into the region by the latter. According to Minister Mnatsakanyan, Azerbaijan’s decision to become a zone of Turkish influence and international terrorism is a serious threat to regional security.
Minister Mnatsakanyan noted that Azerbaijan’s violation of the ceasefire agreements and the continuation of military operations against the people of Artsakh once again demonstrate Azerbaijan’s intention to resolve the conflict by military means.
Both sides reaffirmed the need to implement the agreements reached on the immediate cessation of fire in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, as well as to continue the peace process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.
