Greco-Roman wrestler and reigning Olympic champion Artur Aleksanyan has advanced to the semifinals of Tokyo-2020, defeating Finland’s representative Arvi Martin Savolainen 5-1 in the quarterfinals.
Reigning Olympic champion Artur Aleksanyan, competing in the 97 kg weight class in Greco-Roman wrestling, started the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games with a victory. In the 1/8 finals, he wrestled Kyrgyzstan’s representative, 25-year-old Uzur Dzhuzupbekov, and secured a 4-1 win.
At the 32nd Summer Olympic Games currently underway in Tokyo, Armenia’s representative in the 77 kg weight class, Karapet Chalyan, also claimed victory in the quarterfinals, defeating his Russian opponent 2-1 and advancing to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, the wrestler from Gyumri will face Kyrgyzstan’s representative Akzhol Makhmudov.
Chalyan had begun his campaign in the 1/8 finals, where he defeated 2021 Asian champion, Uzbek Yalkashbay Berdimuratov, 5-0.
