The Armenian Democratic Liberal Party’s Regional Board in Lebanon learned with deep sorrow of the death of Aleppo-Armenian physician, prose writer and intellectual Toros Toranyan. We lost a modest Armenian intellectual who, through his prolific pen and literary activity, was the interpreter of the sentiments of the Armenian people longing for their homeland. We lost a great defender of the Armenian Cause. An intellectual who, with his pen, kept alive in the Western Armenian mind the memories and the value of our lost homeland.
Toros Toranyan will always be remembered as a patriotic literary scholar, prose writer, an encourager of the new generation of writers, and a man of letters who kept Armenian literature alive. Toranyan would find works worthy of publication and had a circle of benefactor friends who encouraged the works of the writers he proposed, serving as patrons for their printing. Toranyan collaborated with all Armenian unions, including the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party and the Tekeyan Cultural Association, to the glory of Armenian culture.
Toranyan was also a fine publicist and commentator. He will remain one of the most widely read Armenian publicists of the second half of the 20th century, whose articles will in the future serve as a source for writing the history of that period.
May God illuminate his soul and grant heavenly patience to his family members, relatives and comrades in ideology.
