“The situation is, of course, very difficult, and our goal is to do everything so that the security environment around Armenia and Artsakh is progressively strengthened.” This was stated by Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly-Government format, in response to a question from independent deputy Gor Gevorgyan.
“This is a general reflection of the geopolitical situation, and as a state, as a society, we must strive to exert all efforts so that the situation moves toward de-escalation, which will lead to the strengthening of security around Armenia, and for diplomacy as well, the primary task has been and remains the strengthening of security.”
Regarding the military exercises taking place in Kars and the concerns surrounding them, the minister said that on the one hand we see military exercises, and on the other hand, messages are coming from Turkey.
“In diplomacy, it is accepted to convey messages through statements, but, taking into account Turkey’s very circumstances, I believe it is time for us to be guided by actions, and I am confident that Turkey, under the pressure of the international community, must gradually return to a normal process. The point is that there is no longer any reason to apply a blockade against Armenia. As you know, the closing of the borders was conditioned by the status of Artsakh, which has been changed through the use of force, and Turkey no longer has any reason to keep the border closed in the direction of Armenia.”
