Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a very harsh speech in Turkey’s parliament in the evening and threatened Greece and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. According to political scientists, Erdoğan is under tension after Greece managed to acquire allies in a short period of time, both in Europe and in the Arab world, signed new alliance agreements in the military sphere, and thus isolated Turkey.

In his speech, Erdoğan expressed disappointment with Mitsotakis and stressed that the Greek prime minister’s statement that the problems between the two countries should be resolved with the support of the UN and the European Union is only Greece’s position, not the Turks’.

“Is Mitsotakis challenging me? How are we supposed to meet and resolve those problems when he challenges me in this way? Mitsotakis, you know your place well; if you seek peace, do not bother me anymore, know your limits, otherwise that means you are kicking the negotiating table and then running away from it.

We are not prepared to sit at the same table with you in this manner. What you are doing in the islands is obvious; who is giving you that much confidence? Do you believe that you will receive support again from somewhere? If you believe that they support you, I think you are mistaken.

Regardless of where your support comes from, know that Turkey stands tall, firmly on its own feet, and knows what to do when necessary. I also wanted to remind Mitsotakis of one thing. You trust countries located on certain mountains, but those mountains were completely covered with snow; you will get no benefit from them, but we make our decisions independently and take them of our own will, so you know well the crazy Turks and what we can do.

Apart from solutions by our two states, Cyprus has no other way out. Whether you accept that or not is your problem; the concept of other federations no longer exists,” declared Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Let us recall that days ago Mitsotakis and Cyprus’s President Nicos Anastasiades expressed a joint position regarding the Cyprus problem.

The two leaders called for the creation of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation as the only solution to resolve the Cyprus issue.

Let us recall that in 1974 Turkey invaded Cyprus, which led to 200,000 refugees and thousands of victims.
