The House of Commons of the British Parliament passed the bill calling for recognition of the Armenian Genocide on its first reading.
“Today is a historic day for the Armenian Cause. Today the bill on the Armenian Genocide was passed on its first reading without objections. The next reading will take place on 18 March 2022. We are grateful to Tim Loughton and to all the supporters of this success,” said the statement issued by the Armenian Cause office in Great Britain.
The bill calls on the government of the United Kingdom to officially recognise the Armenian Genocide committed between 1915 and 1923, to establish an annual commemoration in honour of the victims, and to promote education and public awareness regarding the Armenian Genocide and contemporary human rights violations and war crimes related to it.
