On March 1, within the framework of the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council held in Geneva, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia reports that the parties highly assessed Armenia’s close cooperation with the UN and, in particular, with the UN Human Rights Office. Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the year is symbolic, as it marks the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s membership in the UN. On this occasion, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia has proven itself as a responsible and reliable partner of the international community and has consistently contributed to the advancement of multilateralism, as well as to the protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the world.
Presenting the situation created by the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of the unimpeded involvement of international structures on the ground for the full resolution of humanitarian problems in Nagorno-Karabakh, including the implementation of humanitarian missions by the UN High Commissioner.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia also reports that the UN Human Rights Commissioner considered important the leadership assumed by Armenia in advancing the agenda of preventing genocides and crimes against humanity.
