Today the UN Security Council, in response to the request of the Russian Federation, France and the United States, will hold closed consultations on the situation prevailing in Mountainous Karabakh.
This was announced on his Facebook page by Edmond Marukyan, leader of the Bright Armenia party.
He noted that the armed forces of Azerbaijan, in criminal cooperation with the armed forces of Turkey, mercenaries and terrorist groups, have for more than 20 days been targeting the civilian population and civilian structures of Artsakh (Republic of Mountainous Karabakh) with the use of air power and attack drones, using weapons prohibited by international law, as well as killing (including by beheading) prisoners of war, committing other war crimes and carrying out ethnic cleansing of the population of Artsakh (Republic of Mountainous Karabakh).
As a result of these actions, the danger has become real that a new genocide will be perpetrated against a nation that has survived the horror of genocide.
Taking into account the aforementioned realities, we call on the UN Security Council to declare and enforce by all means a no-fly zone (no-fly zone | бесполетная зона | zone d’exclusion aérienne) over the entire territory of Artsakh (Republic of Mountainous Karabakh) for all types of flying devices, which would make it possible to prevent the further course of war crimes and rule out the consequences of a humanitarian catastrophe.
At the same time, we call on the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group — the Russian Federation, France and the United States — to support the adoption, implementation and enforcement of this proposal.
We appeal to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and to the representative of the Republic of Armenia at the UN, so that the proposal to declare a no-fly zone over the territory of Artsakh be presented at the session of the UN Security Council.
