Statement
One hundred and ten years ago, beginning with the ill-fated morning of April 24, 1915, the Armenian people were subjected to a premeditated, atrocious genocide unprecedented and without antecedent in human history, carried out with ferocious passion and savage frenzy by the Turkish exterminator state.
That merciless project, expressed through an eruption of barbarism at its highest degree, pursued one and only one goal: to completely depopulate Western Armenia through the annihilation of the Armenian people, so as to make possible the realisation of an extremely nationalist political programme — the embodiment of the mad dream of a Pan-Turanian empire to be formed through the fusion of Turkish-speaking tribes.
This is the most blood-soaked and calamitous event in the more than three-thousand-year history of our people, whose fiery, sorrow-laden chronicle increasingly storms and shall continue to storm the minds and souls of us all. We can never forget, nor do we even have the right to forget, our millions of innocent martyrs, for whom the bloodthirsty bestial means employed for their slaughter were crimes absolutely alien to and beyond the reach of human reason and conscience.
There is, however, something more horrifying, even more intolerable. Through the wholesale depopulation of Western Armenia, we lost the greater part of our ancestral lands — our sacred homeland. The genocidaires wrested from us and plundered our country, irrigated for centuries by the sweat of tens of generations, made to flourish by arduous labour and defended by countless heroic feats, where the holy ashes of our forefathers rest.
They took from us our land — the irreplaceable, one of the most important elements of nationhood, statehood and civilisation.
For one hundred and ten years, the Turkish state has not only arrogantly denied the Armenian Genocide, but has literally resorted to every means to distort, and has exceptionally and insidiously falsified, history and the truth.
At the same time, with the familiar obsession of the barbaric criminal, with systematic organisation, it is fundamentally destroying our numerous historical and precious cultural monuments and memorials located throughout the entire territory of the confiscated Armenian lands.
The contemporary, overt manifestations of the same abominable genocide and the same horrifying deranged programme are also the cruelest, forced depopulation of Artsakh and the destruction and annihilation, with consistent and raging ruthlessness by the Azerbaijani state, of our centuries-old, multifaceted cultural heritage within our paternal birthplaces.
With incense and remembrance, in these days, as we honour the sacred and unforgettable memory of all our martyrs who fell victim to the genocide, we are also duty-bound, with renewed vigour and determination, to grant a new awakening to our national consciousness and sentiments, so that we may take up with fresh impetus our uncompromising and unyielding struggle against the ongoing, raging genocide.
It is of paramount urgency that we immediately resort to every possible means to secure the final release of all Armenian prisoners unlawfully held in Baku and the full restoration of all the undeniable rights of our beloved people of Artsakh.
