Unknown Individuals Threaten to Bomb Armenian and Belarusian Embassies in Moscow

On January 7, unknown individuals sent emails with bomb threats to the electronic mailboxes of the Armenian and Belarusian embassies in Russia. They demanded the withdrawal of the countries’ troops from the territory of Kazakhstan. The buildings were searched; no explosive devices or explosive materials were found.  Russian police officers have opened criminal cases following anonymous reports of bomb threats against the Armenian and Belarusian embassies in Moscow. Russian police officers have opened criminal cases following anonymous reports of bomb threats against the Armenian and Belarusian embassies in Moscow.

Criminal cases have been opened under Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“knowingly false report of an act of terrorism”). The article’s sanction provides for a fine of 500,000 to 700,000 rubles or imprisonment for three to five years.
