The US House of Representatives, in a vote held on 29 October, adopted by a large majority Resolution 296 recognizing the Armenian Genocide, co-authored by Congressmen Adam Schiff and Gus Bilirakis.
Of the congressmen who participated in the vote, 405 voted in favor of the resolution, 11 against, 3 abstained, and 13 congressmen did not vote.
It should be noted that the House Rules Committee on Monday approved the decision to bring Resolution 296, which calls for recognition of the Armenian Genocide, to a vote, stating that its discussion and vote would take place on the afternoon of 29 October.
Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern opened the session with an impressive speech, emphasizing that the adoption of Resolution 296 is an opportunity for the House of Representatives to clearly express itself on the Armenian Genocide, clearly acknowledging that what took place was genocide.
The committee later approved the decision to bring the resolution to a vote.
On Tuesday, the full House of Representatives session approved the committee’s decision to bring the resolution to a vote (by a vote of 223-191).
