A consultation was held at Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s office, during which the draft law on Higher Education and Science and the proposed changes were presented.

As reported by the Prime Minister’s staff, Nikol Pashinyan noted that the aforementioned draft law is important and principled: “What gives rise to the need to have such a draft and to make changes? First, the recognition that we have serious problems in the educational system. And we must say directly that our educational system does not ensure the development of our country, much less does it ensure the aspirations of our country, our people, our nation, which today are already formulated as a government programme, which are being formulated as a strategy and about which we have spoken many times.

Therefore, I want to record once again that the government will pursue decisive, principled and consistent changes in this matter, and here, as I have said several times, hanging on the feet of the government and, in essence, the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, dragging them into swamps and keeping them there, will not succeed. I want us all to record this clearly,” the Prime Minister declared.

Continuing, he emphasised that this political recording is not absolute in the sense that they cannot claim that they are the only source of truth and have found the key to all possible questions.

“That this cannot continue this way is very clear, but, naturally, we must not only set the task of reforming the system, but we must also reform the system in such a way that not only our future normal development is ensured, but also that we reduce as much as possible the lost time, because while we have been standing still in this process, to put it mildly, very serious changes have taken place globally in the educational field during that time, and we must choose other paths to fill that lost time and content,” the Prime Minister added.

According to Pashinyan, it is important here that they can truly initiate a very interested, professional discussion and listen to all opinions.
