The action that has created a humanitarian crisis in Mountainous Karabakh (the blockade of the corridor – Ed.) has drawn a broad international response with calls to unblock the corridor; this was stated by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during today’s government session, reminding that Azerbaijan has been keeping the Lachin Corridor closed for 25 days already.
“Despite the international response, Azerbaijan is not taking steps to resolve the issue. By closing the Lachin corridor, Azerbaijan is grossly violating the direct obligation it assumed under the trilateral statement of 9 November 2020, which raises the most serious questions about official Baku’s ability to honour agreements,” Pashinyan declared.
He noted that Azerbaijan is trying to attribute to Armenia the practice of failing to fulfil one’s own obligations, which is absolutely fictitious.
“Various justifications are being offered for the closure of the Lachin corridor, but, in my conviction, the deepest and most real reason is that the Armenians of Mountainous Karabakh continue to live in their homeland, and the international community has begun to record ever more clearly Azerbaijan’s visible policy of subjecting the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing and genocide. In this sense, we expect more concrete steps from the international community, including the Russian Federation, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, whose peacekeeping force is deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh, and keeping the Lachin corridor under its own control is its direct obligation,” Nikol Pashinyan emphasised.
