We have incontrovertible evidence that another 80 prisoners of war were captured. Human rights defender Siranush Sahakyan, who represents the interests of Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan before the European Court of Human Rights, said this during a briefing with journalists.
“The question is how long they survived after capture or whether they are alive at this moment; there is insufficient evidence on that matter,” Sahakyan added, stressing that in addition to the 45 officially confirmed prisoners of war, another 80 must be repatriated.
“Why Azerbaijan does not confirm that there should also be repatriation may be the result of two circumstances: first, political — so that it does not assume responsibility for the fate of a new number of individuals; second, the captured civilians or prisoners of war may simply have been tortured to death,” she said.
