The concentration of the international community’s and Russia’s attention on the Ukrainian issue could lead to the destabilisation of the situation in the South Caucasus. This was stated by Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum taking place in Vladivostok.
According to him, the history of mankind consists of a chain and sequence of difficult times, so any crisis situation brings new threats and opens new opportunities. “For our region too, times are not easy, because the challenges that have long existed, and they are challenges related to security, are increasingly intensifying. This is conditioned by the situation created. The attention of the whole world, including the Russian Federation, the RA’s main strategic partner, is focused on Ukraine, and there is concern that this could lead to destabilisation in Mountainous Karabakh, that this could lead to the destabilisation of our region,” he said.
He recalled that a similar situation was created in 2020, when Azerbaijan, taking advantage of the fact that the attention of the world community and Russia was fixed on the “Corona” pandemic, started a war. “We hope that in close cooperation with the Russian Federation and our partners we will be able to manage and keep our regional situation under control. This is also important for global security,” he added.
