The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States, Lilit Makunts, and the embassy staff participated in a commemoration event dedicated to the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide held in Congress. The Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the United States reports this.
More than a dozen members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, congressional staff, representatives of Armenian community organizations, the Representative of the Republic of Artsakh to the United States, Robert Avetisyan, and others were present at the event.
During the event, legislators in their speeches emphasized their years-long efforts aimed at the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, as a result of which both houses of Congress adopted corresponding resolutions. The congressmen addressed the humanitarian crisis that followed the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh and underscored the necessity of the United States providing support to Armenia and Artsakh.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States, Lilit Makunts, delivered a speech, in which she expressed gratitude to the U.S. Congress for the resolutions adopted regarding the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and emphasized the importance of President Biden’s statement in the process of restoring justice.
Ambassador Makunts noted that with a proper response and condemnation from the international community, the perpetration of future genocides can be prevented, and in that context, she referenced the war crimes and ethnic cleansing that took place during the 44-day war.
