“Azatutyun”, “Ramgavar Mamoul”The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, during his regular live broadcast yesterday, declared that “the government is inclined to permit the operation of Amulsar.” At the end of the approximately 1 hour and 17 minute Facebook live broadcast, the Prime Minister stated that he considers it expedient to allow the operation of the Amulsar mine.
“It is in the interests of our government, state, people, and country that we satisfy the legal condition we have set and the condition that received the people’s vote of confidence, that is, to give the opportunity for the Amulsar mine to be operated,” Pashinyan declared, noting that he reached this conclusion based on the information currently available to him.
During the broadcast, presenting the entire background of the situation surrounding the Amulsar gold mine, the facts presented to him, the expert assessments, and recalling his past statements and evaluations, Pashinyan assured that the government’s current information is clear: the operation of the mine will not harm Sevan or Jermuk.
“And I say, when we say it will not harm, we do not mean that 10 liters of polluted water should be poured into Sevan, at least let us make it so that 1-1.5 liters or 20 grams is poured. Not one liter of polluted water. And it must operate with the highest environmental standards of pollution. And our conclusion, our conclusion according to our procedures, is this,” the Prime Minister noted.
“And if theoretically information comes to light that completely overturns this assessment of mine, I am not constrained by anything,” Pashinyan said.
Let us recall that Prime Minister Pashinyan’s speech took place at the end of a day filled with protest rallies over the Amulsar issue.
