The European community has expressed deep concern regarding the developments in Turkey.
This is reported by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, citing its European sources.
The source also notes that the unjust removal from office of the mayors of three cities in southeastern Turkey is concerning, as it calls into question respect for the democratic results of the elections held in that country.
Earlier, Turkey’s Ministry of Interior had announced the dismissal of the mayors of three cities in the country’s southeast — Van, Diyarbakir and Mardin — accusing them of having ties with the “Kurdistan Workers’ Party” (PKK).
It is also reported that yesterday, for the same reason, searches were carried out in the aforementioned three cities, as a result of which 418 individuals were arrested on charges of having links with the PKK.
In a statement issued by the European Union, it is also noted that “Turkey must repeal those measures that hinder the development of local democracy.”
