Armenia is the country with the most capitals in the world — there are twelve of them: Armavir, Van, Yervandashat, Artashat, Tigranakert, Vagharshapat, Dvin, Bagaran, Shirakavan, Kars, Ani and Yerevan.
The name of Armenia’s capital comes from the Urartian period — Erebuni. It is known from Urartology that the Urartian sound “B” is pronounced “V” in Armenian. Hence the name Erebuni was transformed and became Yerevan.
The area of Yerevan is 223 sq km, and its population is 1,075.1 thousand people.
