Three new cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in Armenia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this in a post on his Facebook page.
“Today, unfortunately, we have three new cases of the coronavirus.
Two of the individuals are citizens of the Republic of Armenia (aged 45 and 27), and one is an Italian citizen (aged 51) who works in Armenia. All three had arrived from Italy.
Their circle of contacts is now being traced for quarantine purposes, which according to preliminary data is not large.
The Italian citizen and one of the Armenian citizens have no complaints. One of the Armenian citizens has pneumonia.
The patients had been registered as soon as they arrived.
Anticipating criticism as to why we did not decide to halt flights from Italy, let me say that we discussed this possibility several times and reached the obvious conclusion that potential carriers could come to Armenia from Italy’s neighbouring countries — France, Austria — since no restrictions are applied within the EU.
That is, by the same logic we would have had to close the other European routes as well, especially since the coronavirus is also spreading in other European countries.
Now the airlines themselves have decided to halt flights from Italy.
Let me note that the people from the ‘Golden Palace’ and the first diagnosed patient are doing well and have no complaints.
Dear compatriots, I ask that you remain calm and follow the Ministry of Health’s advice regarding measures to prevent the coronavirus,” the Prime Minister wrote.
