32 years ago these days, the mass massacres of Armenians began in Baku, which became the culmination of the policy of extermination and forced displacement of the Armenian population living in the Azerbaijani SSR.
This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia:
It is noted that as a result of a week-long bloody and mass crimes, there were hundreds of killed, maimed and missing among the Armenian population. With those massacres, the process of the Armenophobia of Azerbaijan was brought to an end, as a result of which about half a million Armenians became refugees.
The consistent denial of the Baku massacres and other crimes committed against Armenians, the glorification of their perpetrators, the continued rooting of hatred against Armenians remain state policy in Azerbaijan to this day, which are also expressed in hate speech and aggressive policy towards Armenia and Artsakh, which is a key threat to peace and stability in our region:
“Today we bow our heads to the memory of the innocent victims of the anti-Armenian massacres in Baku and reaffirm the united commitment of Armenia, Artsakh and the entire Armenian diaspora to ensure the right of the Armenian people to live freely, safely and with dignity in their homeland,” the statement said.
