On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, as a result of deadly explosions, more than 200 people died, over 5,000 were wounded and taken to hospitals, and 300,000 people were left homeless and destitute, with numerous residences, buildings, workplaces and markets razed to the ground.
The noble people of Lebanon were already reeling in recent years amid political, economic and coronavirus turmoil, and this explosion shook and destroyed a significant part of Beirut, causing great damage to the Armenian community’s schools, churches, centers, newspapers and workplaces.
The Armenian community of Lebanon is not only the beating heart of the Armenian diaspora, but this colony, for 100 years, has brought its irreplaceable contribution to the economic, cultural and social life of Lebanon, its homeland.
“The pain of one member of the body causes pain to the whole body.”
All of us Armenians of the Homeland, Artsakh and the Diaspora are filled with deep sorrow on the occasion of the consequences of these terrible, earth-shattering explosions.
The Armenian has seen many disasters throughout his entire history, but through the will, hope and faith of his sons, he has been able to confront them, always extending a helping hand to stricken colonies, or to the people of the Homeland and Artsakh.
So, dear compatriots,
It is our heartfelt appeal to you, that you extend your generous material and moral support to our sisters and brothers in Lebanon, opening wide your pockets along with your hearts, to help our compatriots and the noble people of Lebanon living through terrible, difficult and painful days.
