In a conversation with Azatutyun, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan said that the strengthening of democracy in the country and the government’s anti-corruption fight had a significant positive impact on the high economic growth registered in Armenia in 2019, emphasizing that the environment being created allows the economy to be free and therefore to develop.
According to the Statistical Committee, Armenia’s economic activity indicator in 2019 stood at 7.8%, an unprecedentedly high figure since 2011, when the committee began measuring the country’s economy by that indicator.
Tigran Avinyan specifically said: “We have had growth in tourism, of quite a large scale — approximately 15 percent, the number of visitors has increased, if I am not mistaken, by very rough estimates, 1.9 million tourists visited the Republic of Armenia in 2019. Services have also grown, quite sharply, that is, in these directions as well we have had quite positive developments.
This is a record figure — an increase of approximately 15 percent compared to the previous year“:
